Testimonials (or not)

Some might wonder why they don’t see testimonials from counselling clients or families on this website. There are one or two about my prowess as a presenter, but none about my expertise as a counsellor or sexuality educator.

There’s a reason for that.

The work that counsellors and sexuality educators do is highly confidential. One of the core tenets of the work we do is that what we talk about in sessions is between the two of us. (I’ll blog another time about how I maintain confidentiality and involve the teams of folks I work for).

Am I good at what I do? I like to think so and many folks have told me that. (I’m sure there are some who might not agree and that’s their right, not every counsellor is a fit for everyone).

What you won’t ever see on my website is a testimonial from a client or family member attesting to that expertise. It puts the individuals who see me at risk of being identified and quite frankly, breaches my Code of Ethics as a counsellor.

While we all like to read reviews and testimonials, remember that there is a reason why counsellors and therapists don’t (or shouldn’t) have them on their websites.
